In this week’s post, I want to talk about why it’s important for you to express your true self and speak fluent English if you’re working in an English-speaking environment.

If your work requires you to speak English every day, you NEED to be a fluent speaker.

Because if you don’t, it’s going to be frustrating to not be able to express your TRUE self at work. And we spend eight hours a day there (sometimes even more)!

Maybe in Malay (or whatever language you’re fluent in), you’re a confident, expressive and charismatic person. But when it comes to speaking English, you’re the complete opposite.

Being unable to express your true self on a daily basis is going to hurt your self-esteem and even your personal life. You’ll feel frustrated every day and it may affect those who you love at home.

I truly believe in the life-changing power of expressing your true self.

If you’re able to frequently talk about your ideas, your goals and even your frustrations, it will have a HUGE positive impact on your overall happiness at work and in life.

So , do you struggle in being your true self at work because of English?

If so, start sharing more ideas at work instead of waiting for someone to ask you. Start talking about your goals to your friends, colleagues and superiors. If you’re frustrated with something, start by talking about it in a respectful manner.

You can even take it further by enrolling in classes, workshops or online courses to help you become a more fluent speaker.

Like I said in last week’s post (you can read it here), practice makes PROGRESS. What’s important is that you progress so that you can continue growing and improving.

You just have to start.
