How to Create Your Persona for Speaking English

So yesterday, Madam Azimah and I went live on our Facebook Page and talked about creating a persona for yourself.

But before that, let’s back up a little bit.

Do you find yourself feeling really nervous before a big presentation?

Or do you just feel nervous speaking English in general?

One advanced technique to help you with this is to create a persona for yourself.

A persona is a character, or an alter ego, that you create and step into for certain situations. This persona is another version of you — it’s your best self that you aspire to be.

Maybe you aspire to be more confident, energetic, and charismatic.

So you envision this version of yourself in your mind — your persona of a confident, energetic, and charismatic you. And you give that version of you a name.

You don’t have to be that person right now, but when the situation calls for it, you do your best to become that character.

You become that persona when you most need it — for an important presentation, in meetings, or anytime at work when you need to speak English.

It will help you live into that character. You will train yourself to think, act, and adopt the habits of your persona.

And one day, you may actually become that persona.

But even if you don’t, you’ll still be a little closer to becoming that best version of yourself. And like we always say, practice makes progress. Let’s celebrate progress instead of perfection.

So that’s a little taster of what a persona is and how you can benefit from having one.

Now you may be thinking: Wow, I want that. How can I create a persona for myself?

Or you may also be thinking: Hmm, I don’t know. It sounds good, but can it really help me overcome my fear of speaking English?

Whatever your thoughts are, I want you to listen to or watch the replay of our live session yesterday.
